Roundup Pricing verified August 2026

Best SEO audit tools for freelancers in 2026

A roundup of the SEO audit tools freelancers actually compare, with verified entry prices and the one job each tool is best at.

August 7, 2026 · 6 min read

The short version

No single tool wins everything. Screaming Frog wins raw crawl depth, Ahrefs and Semrush win data, SEOptimer wins white-label lead-gen, Sitebulb wins visuals and education. If the job is an instant client-ready scored report, that is the gap SEO by Daniel fills.

This list was not built by ranking affiliate links. We run an SEO audit tool, so treat that as a bias and check the prices yourself. The shortlist is the tools that actually come up when a freelancer or a micro-agency asks what to buy: two desktop crawlers, a white-label reporting tool, two suites with audits, three data platforms and us. Every price below was checked against a live pricing page in August 2026. Where a price is not published, we say so instead of guessing. The job a tool is best at matters more than its feature count.

The shortlist at a glance

| Tool | Category | Starting price | Best for | | --- | --- | --- | --- | | Screaming Frog | Desktop crawler | Free (500 URLs) / £199/yr | Deep technical crawling on your own machine | | SEOptimer | White-label report tool | $29/mo | White-label audits and embedded lead-gen | | Sitebulb | Desktop and cloud crawler | Free desktop trial / £95+ cloud | Visual, educational technical audits | | Seobility | Suite with audit | Free (1k pages) / €49.90/mo | An all-in-one suite with a usable free tier | | Sitechecker | Suite with audit | $99/mo | Agencies running 10+ client sites | | Ahrefs | Data suite | ~€115/mo | Backlink and keyword intelligence | | Semrush | Data suite | ~$117/mo | A full marketing stack | | Moz Pro | Data suite | $49/mo | A beginner-friendly suite and the DA metric | | SEO by Daniel | Direct audit tool | €19/mo | Instant, client-ready scored reports |

Screaming Frog

Screaming Frog is the desktop crawler most technical SEOs learned on, and it earns that place. It crawls up to 500 URLs free, renders JavaScript, follows redirect chains, and extracts almost anything with XPath or regex. The unlimited licence is a flat £199 per year. The catch is the output: raw spreadsheets you have to turn into a client document, and manual sitemap handling. Read the full comparison.

SEOptimer

SEOptimer's strength is white-label audits and an embeddable lead-gen widget, which is a specific business use more than a technical one. Entry is $29 per month. The free scan is capped and the entry tier limits you to 20 keywords. If you sell audits as lead magnets, it fits. If you need a deep crawl, keep looking. Full comparison.

Sitebulb

Sitebulb sits between Screaming Frog's raw power and a teaching tool. Its visualisations explain what it finds, which suits teams still learning technical SEO. There is a free desktop trial, and cloud plans start around £95. It is desktop-first and the cloud tier is not cheap. Full comparison.

Seobility

Seobility is an all-in-one suite with a free tier that crawls up to 1,000 pages, which is more generous than most free scans. Paid entry is €49.90 per month, about 2.6 times our price. It covers rank tracking, backlinks and on-page checks in one place, so it suits a freelancer who wants one login more than one artifact. Full comparison.

Sitechecker

Sitechecker is aimed at agencies running ten or more client sites. It bundles audits, rank tracking and monitoring at $99 per month. For a solo freelancer that is overkill and overpriced. For an agency with a roster, the volume can justify it. Full comparison.

Ahrefs

Ahrefs is a data company first. Its backlink index and keyword data are the reason people pay roughly €115 per month. The audit feature exists, but it is not the product, and Ahrefs is not built to produce a scored client report. Buy it when the data is the deliverable. Full comparison.

Semrush

Semrush is the broadest platform here: SEO, PPC, content and local tools behind one login at around $117 per month. The depth is real and so is the weight, and the trial requires a card. If your agency already runs on Semrush, the audit comes along. If you only need an audit, you are paying for a lot you will never open. Full comparison.

Moz Pro

Moz Pro is the friendliest of the data suites, with a learning curve that suits beginners and the Domain Authority metric people recognise. Entry is $49 per month. Scores are split across tools rather than combined into one client artifact. Full comparison.

SEO by Daniel

SEO by Daniel is the tool we build, so read this section with the obvious bias. Drop a domain and get a 0-100 homepage score in about two seconds with no account. Paid plans run €19/€49/€99 per month (yearly €190/€390/€790), with a 14-day trial and no credit card. It auto-discovers sitemaps via robots.txt, nested indexes and gzip, crawls the site, and produces a scored report with an executive summary, issues grouped by severity and CSV export. It is new and the brand is small, which is a real weakness if you want a name your client already knows. If the deliverable is a scored report rather than raw data, start with the free scan.

Also worth knowing

We keep full comparison pages for tools outside the shortlist, including Ubersuggest, WooRank and ContentKing. Ubersuggest's paid pricing and WooRank's pricing are not clearly published, so we do not quote numbers here; check current plans on their sites. ContentKing is now part of Conductor and is sold at enterprise tiers with no public price. They matter for specific jobs, but none of them is the default first purchase for a freelancer.

How to choose

Keep the decision to three questions.

  • Is the deliverable a scored report a client reads? Then pick a tool that produces the artifact, not one you assemble by hand.
  • Is the deliverable data and insight? Then pay for the index: Ahrefs, Semrush or Moz Pro. Their value is the data, not the audit.
  • Is the work deep technical crawling you do yourself? Then pick Screaming Frog or Sitebulb. Raw power versus visuals and education.

FAQ

Why are the prices approximate for Ahrefs and Semrush? Their plans are billed in different currencies and change. We quote the figures we verified in August 2026 as a rough guide and tell you to confirm before buying.

Which tool is cheapest for a freelancer? On published entry prices, SEO by Daniel is €19 per month, below SEOptimer at $29 and Moz Pro at $49. Ahrefs and Semrush sit in the €115-117 range.

Do any of these offer a free scan without an account? SEO by Daniel does: a homepage score in about two seconds with no signup. The others gate useful analysis behind a signup or a desktop install.

Can I use more than one tool? Most freelancers do. A data suite for research, a crawler for deep technical work, and a scored audit for the client-facing deliverable is a common stack.

The honest part

The cheapest published entry in this list is ours, and the others start well above €19. That is not a coincidence. The sub-€20 band for a flat audit report is close to empty. The industry also consolidates fast: Searchmetrics and ContentKing are now Conductor, GrowthBar is SEOptimer, and RankRanger is part of Similarweb. A tool that fits your job today should still be around in two years.
