The short version
Scrapy is an excellent Python framework and the wrong place to start an SEO audit. SEO by Daniel already is the SEO product you would otherwise build.

Scrapy is a Python framework for writing web scrapers. It is fast, mature and used far beyond SEO: price monitoring, research datasets, content pipelines. SEO by Daniel is a finished scored audit that takes one URL and returns a report. Scrapy is a library you build with. SEO by Daniel is a product you use. Reach for Scrapy to do an SEO audit and you have signed up to build one.
A client asks you to check their site before a relaunch. You are a Python developer, so the obvious move is a Scrapy spider. You write the start requests, handle pagination, parse each response, capture the title and meta description, and log the status codes. That part takes an afternoon. Then comes the real work: deciding which findings are severe, scoring the pages, and turning the output into something the client can read. That is the product, and it is the part nobody asked you to build.
Meanwhile the relaunch date is not moving. You run SEO by Daniel on the domain, get the score and the severity-grouped issues in seconds, and send the report. The client gets what they asked for.
Scrapy is still the right tool for the job it is actually good at: pulling structured data at scale from a site you are allowed to crawl, or feeding a research pipeline. If that is the requirement, build the spider. If the requirement is an SEO audit, the audit already exists. Do not write a scraping framework to answer a question a scan answers in two seconds.

Pick Scrapy when the task is data extraction that no ready-made tool covers, and you are happy to own the code. It is a strong framework and a reasonable choice for a custom crawling product.
Pick SEO by Daniel when the task is an SEO audit. The checks, the score, the report and the monitoring are already there. Writing them again in Python is the long way to the same answer. A Scrapy spider also needs maintaining every time the target HTML changes, while the audit keeps working. If you bill by the hour, the spider is the expensive path to a result the client already expects.
Can Scrapy run an SEO audit? You can make it fetch pages, but the scoring, severity and reporting are yours to build. SEO by Daniel ships all of that.
Is Scrapy free? Yes, it is open-source Python. SEO by Daniel's quick scan is free too, and the paid tiers start at €19/month.
Should I build my own audit tool with Scrapy? Only if the audit itself is the product you want to own. For a client audit, the build is mostly undifferentiated work.
Run a free scan and skip the spider this time.
Check your own site for free — no account needed. Drop in a domain and get a 0-100 scored report in about two seconds.
